Job Summary: A Day in the life of our Project Manager
Reporting to and under the support and supervision provided by the Band Administrator, the Project Manager is responsible for providing full project planning and implementation to ensure full-cycle project completion. This individual will lead projects in multiple departments in the organization including but not limited to emergency management, disaster response, resource recovery, capital infrastructure, administration, and other areas as needed.
This individual will have tremendous organization skills to help strategize improvements and projects within tight deadlines. This person will also need to be a strong leader with great communication skills to ensure all messaging and key performance indicators are on time and in budget. As the Project Manager, you will:
- Responsible for the improvement of community safety and security by developing and maintaining programming that addresses emergency management.
- Work with leadership to develop and manage specific timelines and project specific schedules
- Direct and coordinate appropriate staff to ensure the success of each project
- Manage and execute the projects to be completed on time and on budget
- Facilitate and coordinate development of collaborative Emergency Management Agreements.
- Provide advise to departments in developing and maintaining emergency plans.
- Oversee in the absence of the Band Administrator, the work of various emergency management committees and sub-committees.
- Liaise with government agencies and emergency services including establishing/maintaining relationships with Municipal and Regional District Emergency offices.
- Provide a single point of contact for the local emergency program and maintain up to date contact lists. Establish and maintain up to date resource lists.
- Community education – personal and community emergency preparedness.
- Emergency plan development, implementation and revisions including coordinating community
- emergency teams and developing and leading emergency exercise.
- Determine volunteer/employee training needs as necessary and develop, implement and monitor training and exercise plans.
- Assign personnel to fill functions within the emergency operations.
- Write proposals to seek funding for emergency preparedness, mitigation, staff/volunteer training.
- Acquire and maintain emergency operations equipment, supplies and installations.
- Maintain all program records, statistics, budgets and other relevant information.
- Special projects and other duties at the discretion of the Band Administrator and/or designate.
ABOUT YOU - Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in relative field an asset, or a combination of relative experience and post-secondary education.
- 4+ years’ experience in project management and emergency planning within a First Nations organization preferably.
- Relevant Designation in area of expertise is an asset.
- Class 5 Drivers License
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

- Experience working in a First Nations environment as well as understanding of federal and provincial laws and regulations pertaining to First Nations.
- Experience in preparing, tendering, evaluating and implementing contract bids.
- Great customer service, communication and customer service skills
- Proven leadership skills and ability to delegate work.
- Strong writing skills for proposals and reports
- Ability and willingness to travel to projects on a weekly or bi-weekly basis
- Self-awareness, with a desire for constant self-development.
- Passionate, energetic, and love a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
- While you consider yourself more of a technical expert than people leader, in previous roles, you have been known to coach and develop your peers – always finding the time to help more junior resources solve complex problems.
